Carbures continues with its road map and this new plant will allow to maintain the cruising speed of marked growth. The Company's Aerospace & Defense division, which closed the first half of 2017 with positive manufacturing results and obtained revenues of 37.9 million euros at the end of 2016, has put in place the processes to adapt a new factory of 11,000 square meters in Getafe (Madrid). At full capacity, a factory like this can employ 250 people and manufacture thousands of aircraft parts in composite materials every year. In fact, its industrial capacity will double to its present factory of Illescas (Toledo), that works at full capacity.
"This move is part of the strategy that the Company is undertaking to diversify its clients, whose number has grown by 25 percent, and the number of offers under study, where there has been an increase of 47.8 per cent compared to 2016, "said Executive Chairman Rafael Contreras. "Airplanes are increasingly incorporating parts into composite materials and we have to be prepared for it," he adds.
Borja Martinez-Laredo, CEO of Carbures, says: "The company will have one of the most modern composite parts manufacturing plants in the world, in its industrial design as well as in technology and manufacturing processes. Our identity consists of being at the forefront of technology and industry and responding to the new demands of our customers. "
For every kilo of weight that can be reduced in an airplane, sabout 1,500 liters of fuel can be saved every year. This is a key factor that causes airlines and aircraft manufacturers to increase the percentage of composite parts they use for their aircrafts. If about 15 years ago, an aircraft carried between 10 and 15 percent of composite parts, the percentage has now increased above 50 percent. The trend continues to pick up. This was reflected directly in the manufacturing processes of Carbures, which, in 2016, broke its record of manufacturing parts of aircraft with 45,695 units (compared to 39,322 pieces of the previous year).
