Farnborough Airshow

Farnborough International Airshow 2016 edition was held last week in London. 123.9 billion dollar orders were generated, exceeding the forecasts of the organizers of this event. An average of 20,000 people attended the Airshow every day.

Aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing announced their last months’ balance sheets and, also, they showed their enthusiasm for the next 20 years. Airbus presented its new aircraft, the A321neo, the largest of the single-aisle range.

This firm has already received 140 orders for this model, in the amount of 15.8 billion euros. Airbus has signed the biggest contract of this Airshow with Air Asia, so it will sell 100 A321neo airplanes to this airline for more than 11.2 billion euros.

Moreover, Airbus plans to expand its fleet until 2035 with 33,000 new aircrafts valued at 4.7 billion euros. These will each have a capacity for 100 passengers on board.

Airbus outnumbered Boeing´s orders at the Airshow, with 279 orders (amounting to 31.5 billion euros), while the American firm concluded the show with more than 180 commercial aircraft orders at a cost of 24 billion euros. However, in terms of deliveries, Boeing is beating so far this year Airbus with 375 aircrafts, against 298.

On the occasion of Boeing´s 100th anniversary (operating since July 15th 1916), the company exhibited several Series 7 aircrafts together with some historical models in the Centennial Pavilion of the Airshow. All attendees were impressed by Boeing’s new model: 787-9 Dreamliner, which has been manufactured for the Japanese company ANA (All Nippon Airways). During last week, this company performed demonstrations to show its innovative vertical takeoff. Please watch here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwxGDdsI_bU) a simulation of it.

Airlines are beginning to demand lighter and more efficient aircrafts, in the same way that Carbures is using carbon fiber and other composites in the manufacturing of aircraft parts.
